Charles Dickens
Victorian novelist and social journalist whose campaigns against the Poor Law, the Yorkshire schools, and Chancery reform were conducted as much through journalism and public readings as through fiction. American Notes and Pictures from Italy are his travel books. His journalism in Household Words and All the Year Round reached millions.
