Colin Dexter created Inspector Morse, one of the most beloved British detectives, a melancholy Oxford-based inspector who solved crimes while drinking real ale and listening to opera. The television adaptation with John Thaw became one of the most successful British crime dramas in history. Dexter received the Crime Writers' Association Diamond Dagger for lifetime achievement.
