Ellery Queen was the joint pseudonym of cousins Frederic Dannay and Manfred Bennington Lee, who created one of the most important detective series in American mystery fiction. Their protagonist, also named Ellery Queen, was a writer-detective whose precisely constructed cases challenged readers with formal clues. They founded Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine, the most important crime fiction periodical in American publishing.
