Elmer Kelton was a Texas rancher and journalist who wrote some of the most critically acclaimed Western novels, distinguished by their historical accuracy, moral complexity, and authentic portrayal of Texas cattle culture. The Way of the Coyote and The Time It Never Rained are among the most respected Western novels of the 20th century. He received seven Spur Awards.
