John D. MacDonald
John D. MacDonald was one of the most respected and prolific crime writers in American fiction, best known for his Travis McGee series featuring a philosophical Florida beach bum who recovers things for people on a contingency basis. His novels combined adventure, social criticism, and philosophical musings. Stephen King credits MacDonald as a major influence on his own work.
