Michael Innes
Michael Innes was the pen name of J.I.M. Stewart, an Oxford don who wrote witty, erudite detective novels featuring Scotland Yard detective John Appleby. His novels were distinguished by their literary allusions, comic inventiveness, and insider academic and social satire. He was a leading figure in the donnish school of British detective fiction.
