Nevil Shute
Nevil Shute was an English-Australian novelist and aeronautical engineer whose adventure novels and gentle thrillers combined technical expertise with humanistic storytelling. On the Beach, his postapocalyptic novel, is one of the most affecting works about nuclear war. A Town Like Alice, set partly in wartime Malaya, is one of the finest adventure romances in English.
