Peter Watts is a Canadian marine biologist and science fiction author known for his relentlessly bleak and scientifically rigorous novels. Blindsight is widely considered one of the best hard SF novels of the twenty-first century for its disturbing examination of consciousness and first contact. His work suggests that intelligence and consciousness may be evolutionary dead ends.
