Sara Paretsky created V.I. Warshawski, one of the most influential female private detectives in crime fiction, pioneering the feminist PI novel. Her Chicago-set novels tackle social issues including corporate malfeasance, corruption, and violence against women with moral urgency. She co-founded Sisters in Crime, the influential organization supporting women crime writers.
