Willem Elsschot
Willem Elsschot was the pen name of Alfons de Ridder, a Belgian author who wrote in Dutch and is considered one of the greatest Dutch-language writers of the 20th century. His novels are characterized by ironic humor, a sharp eye for bourgeois hypocrisy, and a distinctly modern sensibility.
