Anne McCaffrey was an American-Irish author who created the beloved Dragonriders of Pern series, blending science fiction and fantasy through the concept of telepathically bonded dragons on a distant human colony. Her work was enormously popular and helped bring female protagonists to the center of genre fiction. She was the first woman to win the Hugo Award for fiction.
