H. Rider Haggard created the lost-world adventure subgenre with his Allan Quatermain novels, set in the unmapped interior of Africa. King Solomon's Mines and She are two of the most influential adventure novels in English literature. His work influenced generations of adventure writers, filmmakers, and the entire lost-world tradition.
