Cormac McCarthy
Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian is one of the most violent and philosophically demanding Westerns ever written, a meditation on human violence set in the borderlands of the 1850s. His Border Trilogy, beginning with All the Pretty Horses, brought the Western to a new generation of literary readers. He is considered the greatest living Western novelist before his recent death.
